A New Symbiosis by abcartattack A New Symbiosis by abcartattack
A New Symbiosis, spray paint and acrylic on a 24x24in canvas.

To me this one has some meaning and hence the title. The pigeon represents people and city life, while the rhino represents nature and animals. We have to find a way for animals and people to coexist in this world or all wild animals will cease to exist.

In recent decades rhinos have been relentlessly hunted to the point of near extinction. Since 1970 the world rhino population has declined by 90 percent, with five species remaining in the world today, all of which are endangered. The rhino has a symbiotic relationship with oxpeckers, also called tick birds. The birds feed off parasites on the rhino and warn the rhino when danger is approaching. Hence a symbiotic relationship.

So with the pigeon, a city bird, I was trying to convey man's relationship with nature.

What do you think?

Like you said the oxpecker has a relationship with the rhino and equally share to each others benefit but the pigeon is definitely not an oxpecker and for the pigeon to eat ticks off the rhino is not an option but one day an sculptor will make a beautiful sculpture of a the last rhino in a city and the pigeons will come and stain the rhino. To the pigeons it is just a roosting place. Same goes with people why use the rhino when it is not a necessity to us. Ticks to a pigeon. Very well portrayed piece. Thanks

Thanks for the thoughts on the subject. And hopefully the last rhino won't be a statue, that would be pretty sad.

I have been watching you for a bit of time already, but this would be one of my top favourites by you. I especially like the way you rendered the pigeon.

Well, I definitely like how the red/orange transition moves from SW to NE (for lack of a better description). The colors look softer, by which I mean they look well-blended, not so chaotic. The subtle yellows are almost an afterthought but the baby blue highlights bring it together. Plus, I really like how the bird stencil came out. :-)

Well, I've always had decent visual instincts so I try to take in as much as I can. I aced every photography class (save one because of time and resources) I ever took with minimal effort (at least it seemed minimal...). I tend to think I was born 'wired' to the visual world, IDK. I do know that the majority of the people in my family need glasses to one extent or another and I've never needed them... Maybe that says something from a biological stand-point.
